The long awaited new sewing machine! Janome Atelier 5 review

It's been a mad few months and I haven't had much time to sit down in the last little while! I have been working very hard here at Cherry Plum Tree HQ which has been wonderful, rewarding and knackering in equal measure. One of the most awesome things to happen is that I have finally been able to upgrade my trusty Janome sewing machine and get a fancy pants computerized model that I have been saving for diligently for the past squillion years or so. Meet Gertrude! She is my beautiful new Janome Atelier 5 and I absolutely love her.   My new Janome Atelier 5 Sewing on my old machine (a beloved but battered Janome J3-24) was starting to...

Unicorns!

It's been a busy March here at Cherry Plum Tree HQ and I haven't had much time to stop and sit down, or to knit. All of the (ermm, quite many) socks I am working on have reached difficult bits that need quiet and concentration to work on, either the heel turn or the toe decreases and kitchener stitch, and I haven't had much of either just lately. I've been loving working with my beautiful purple Aya Fibres yarn though, as well as the gorgeous Regia Arne and Carlos Starry Night and once I have done that pesky heel turn, I can dive back into the patterned part of the sock and really crack on. Can't wait! For the time...

Indie Dyers - Aya Fibres

I've been wanting to do a series of posts on my favourite indie dyers for a while now, there are so many talented individuals creating hand dyed yarn just in the UK and Europe that they definitely deserve a little corner of the internet devoted to them. So it was serendipitous when, month or so ago, I was lucky enough to do a very happy 'yarn bag in exchange for yarn' swap with the marvellous Aya Fibres who is based in Germany. I created a rather gorgeous custom knitting bag for her which I was really pleased with!   I was excited to receive my yarn and when it arrived it was even nicer than I thought it would be...

The first thing I'd save in a fire, and other holiday tales

I am slowly emerging from the busiest few months of work I have had since I started Cherry Plum Tree almost 4 years ago! It's been manic and quite heavy going in that I haven't had a lot of free time to do things I enjoy, but I made up for that by buying copious amounts of yarn - mostly sock yarn. It's a kind of promise to myself that says, 'look, you will have free time again. And this skein is proof of that'. The end result is a bag of yarn so gorgeous that I'm almost tempted not to use it because then I can go on looking at the lovely colours and squidging the soft skeins whenever...

Christmas wishes and unbelievable levels of busyness...

Did I say I was busy last time I posted here? <hollow laugh> No, that was just a mild flurry, as it turns out... I am now completely drowning in orders, which is absolutely marvellous, and as it also coincides with Small Person being off school, slightly stressful. I am doing my best to parent well even as work tasks pile up, as well as regular every-day and festive-related tasks. As part of my striving to be awesome parent, I made my son this fantabulous and completely unique Festive Cat Case for Christmas, which I hope he will love. Inside is a pack of Shopkins Top Trumps cards, a fad he managed to become obsessed with and then go off...
